On Monday, February 13th we'll be meeting in the library for our overview of their services and to get started with researching,
So, to that end, I want you (based on what we'll be discussing in class this week) to indicate what some of your top ideas for forthcoming research topics are. I'll be pushing to help you expand beyond the usual research topics, but I want you to write about one (or a few) of the ones you're most interested in heading into our day focused on the library and research. I came across a lot of topic ideas to write this research paper on. But I came to the realization that some of the topics I had an interest to write about weren’t the best topics only because there wasn’t enough information I could perform research on. Some topics I came across that stood out to me that I really would like to find more information on are where are the best places to travel around the world, best places to eat around the world. As well as the evolution of fashion these were the top three topics that stood out to me the most to write about. I found a lot of interest to do a research paper on best places to travel around the world because I love traveling. Every year I do a huge family trip and we go to different parts of the world that are cool and unique. I also have a huge passion for fashion and finding out more information how it evolved over time would be really cool to learn about and see how it was then and how some styles they had back then evolved and are now back in style again.

Coming into this project I already kind of knew what research topics I would want to explore. However, from the activity that we did in class on Wednesday, I came across some other research topics that seemed worth looking at. In high school, I composed a lot of research papers and they usually were very formal research topics that I wouldn’t be able to obtain a lot of information for that topic but with some of the ones I came across this past week, I think I can obtain a lot of information on them. One of the topics that I came up with was with abortion. Although, it is a very touchy subject, I like how I can incorporate both pro-life and pro-choice decisions and their views on the topic. I also like how now with our new president, Donald Trump, there is a lot of controversy that he talks about abortion and I can talk about that as well. Another topic that I liked was the internet. There is so much information that I can talk about like, if the government should be allowed to regulate information on the internet, how the music industry is being affected by the internet, and are children smarter because of the internet or are they weakening them. Although, these are some formal topics I like at the moment, I might find interest in other topics later on.

While brainstorming for this project i came across a bunch of topics, but none of them seemed interesting enough to me. I am trying to stray away from typical research topics that have been over argued and over done, but i am still struggling a bit. For now i am interested in the topic of Alzheimers disease, mostly because it runs in my family and i am interested to know why there is still not a cure. I am curious to know if there are any ways to prevent Alzheimer’s or to at least stop the acceleration of the disease. I’d like to research this topic because the internet is filled with tons of information, studies, and articles about this disease, which gives me access to various different points of view. I am also possibly interested in the topic of animal-assisted therapy. This is an interesting topic to me because i have always wanted to know if animals play a vital role in someones childhood, and if they actually do help improve someones mental state. Some people use animals as a form of therapy and i would like to look into whether it really works.

Going into this project I had a few very general topics in mind. I considered abortion or the rights of citizens, two very important and relevant topics to discuss during this calamity of a presidency. After doing the in class activity of jotting down a number of topics I realized I wanted to write about a topic that was a little more obscure and particular to me. I narrowed my topics down to some potential subjects: types of crime in different areas of the world, the importance of dogs and the importance of humans in a dog’s life, or sleeping habits and how they relate to mental diseases. I could also write about drugs and its influences in certain crimes or prescription drug abuse relating to mental health facilities. As of now my number one interest for a topic is abuse in the film industry. I want to talk about certain instances, such as the new information that was released about the Last Tango in Paris, and general topics relating to certain directors and actors who have abused their stardom. I would also like to touch on abuse in the adult film industry and public reactions toward these abuses of power.

When I first heard about the research project I was very narrow minded on what I wanted for topics. However, in class when we did the activity to continue to write more and more topics it helped me expand my ideas. I came up with a few that I wouldn’t have thought of right away such as technology through the years or how big companies like Publix first started. I think it would be interesting to possibly talk about technology through the years and how it has evolved. To research about when there was no wifi and only home phones, compared to now where we have so much information and technology at our fingertips. Currently we have amazing technologies such as smart phones, laptops, tablets, and so much more. Even the technology we have in our homes (like alarm systems) and cars now is insane. It’s amazing that now you can be in your car and have the ability to connect your phone to Bluetooth (or Carplay), call someone, play music from your phone, get directions, and much more. I think this is a very interesting topic but there are also other topics I would like to explore as well.

A lot of ideas came to mind when we were asked to brainstorm what to write our research report on. I found it was more challenging to pick a final one than it was to come up with as many as instructed. There are so many topics that I am passionate about but don't necessarily have enough research information to write a full paper on, and so many topics with more than enough information that I'm not quite as interested in. And there are plenty that have a bit of both. As of right now, I'm thinking about topics relating to the government and terrorism and there are more than enough topics in those two subjects alone. I have yet to pick a specific one but I am excited to see where this paper takes me and which way I end up taking my report.

After reading from the Bedford Book of Genres for homework, I immediately began coming up with topics. My first topic and the one I still favor arose from watching the movie Split. The movie was incredibly intriguing to me and I could not help but desire to learn more on the topic. With dissociative identity disorder being a relatively new discovered disorder there are many sides to be considered. For example, as was stated in the movie as well, many people still do not even consider the disorder to be real. I, however, believe it to be real and am very interesting in learning more. I find the true story of the blind woman who's other identity can see exceptionally intriguing and would like to focus on how such "impossible" things can be real. There are a few other topics I find interesting as well, if for some reason dissociative identity disorder does not quite pan out as I hope for it to. I am also interesting in women's rights and topics that involve animals, especially animal and human bonds. I also have always been curious on how death by broken heart worked. So, while I have quite a few back up topics, I definitely favor dissociative identity disorder and hope to conduct my research project on it.

When I found out we were able to choose our own topics for the research project, I knew exactly what category I wanted my topic to fall under. I have always been interested in psychology and behavior analysis. For that reason, I would like my topic to fall under that category. Behaviors and how the brain works has always interested me. I find it fascinating, that when you get down to the basics, such as natural behaviors and instincts, we are all generally the same. There has been signifIcant research done to prove that. However, there are many people who believe otherwise. Therefore, human behavior and how we are all similar, in that aspect, would be an ideal research paper. Another topic I am interested in, as a fall back, is electronics and how they are controlling our lives. It interests me how so many human beings allow their cell phones and computers to control their lives. Also, how many people have lost the ability to have social interactions because of such electronics. I prefer, by far, human behavior over the electronics category, only because I have been interested in it for as long as I can remember.

As I was approaching the second project I felt like I was hitting a wall. I had no idea what I was going to write a research paper on. Doing the activity on Wednesday really opened my eyes to how many interesting topics there are to research. When I was trying to narrow down the extensive list I had made in class a few were striking me as interesting. I have always found myself interested in sleep patterns and how the brain dreams, so I figured that would be a great thing to write a research paper on. I will learn more about how the brain functions while the body is sleeping. I feel that I will be able to find enough information to write a great research paper while also being interested in it the whole time. I briefly learned about this in psychology when I was in high school and I found myself wanting to learn more even after the lesson was completed. This paper will give me the opportunity to further my knowledge on this topic.

Going into this project, I feel really taunted by the idea of a research paper and all the work it entails. It seems as if the amount of work overshadows the basic premise of the quality of work I can achieve. However, I know with proper planning and time allotment, I will be able to complete a paper that doesn't seem tedious, but in fact is interesting to partake in. In the light of our newly elected president, laws have been put in place to extinguish funding for women's contraceptives. I am interested (I think) in writing a paper that explores the history of such, and how this ties into abortion laws, and the history of them, as well. Also factoring in the history of said abortion laws. I find this very interesting due to the fact that is some of our nation's most current events and is something so relevant to me, and women as a whole. I am very excited to get to explore more into this topic in a hopefully well written research paper.

I usually dislike research projects because I can never come up with a solid, interesting, and debatable topic. However, the exercise we did in class on Wednesday helped me come up with a bunch of ideas I would not have normally thought of. Because I had to come up with so many topics, I was literally writing anything that I am interested in. I’ve come to the realization that a research paper doesn’t necessarily have to be academic. It can be anything that I am interested in knowing more about. The research should be scholarly, however. When making topics, my top ideas were as follows: The Proctor and Gamble company, a career in youtube videos, and Astrology. I am strongly considering doing my paper on the Proctor and Gamble company. The reason I am interested in this company is that it serves as the “headquarter” for millions of product brands that we use everyday from personal care to cleaning products. However, I have not come up with a solid question to lead my research. Additionally, I was interested in writing my paper on Youtube careers. I am a huge fan of youtube and I have recently discovered that people have made their own careers on Youtube. I am interested in the logistics of it all: How much youtubers get paid, how does youtube make money and other very complicated aspects of this website and its “employees” and users. Because I already have so many questions about youtube careers, I think that I will end up doing my research paper on that topic instead of Proctor and Gamble. I just need to come up with a question to lead my research.

From the moment I read the syllabus at the beginning of the year, I started thinking about some topics that could be interesting to research. The class activity on Wednesday, however, made me realize there are other interesting and fun topics that I could expand on and research, making the writing process more enjoyable. Although I considered several other topics I finally selected my initial choice because I am interested in it and it is part of my field, studies, and future occupation. The topic I decided to investigate for Project 2 is “The Use of Scorpion Venom as an Alternative to Treat Cancer". I am planning on taking an informative approach instead of argumentative because I feel that not everyone knows about it and I would like to explain what it is instead of trying to defend its use or not. I think I would find an adequate number of academic sources to use in my research because it is a vastly studied medical concern. As I search for sources and I expand my personal knowledge I might, however, include argumentative remarks or completely focus on the argumentative aspect, it is something I have not decided yet. Next class in the library I will look in depth to finally decide.

Out of the several ideas we brainstormed, I came up with some good ones that I would like to use for project two. I liked my topic about gun control the most. There is a lot to research about it and how it can be regulated and safer. This is a growing epidemic and it really needs to be looked into since all of the recent shootings. America is founded on the right to bear arms so there needs to be some new alternatives for guns going forward. I also think my idea about the drinking age being lowered could provide a lot to talk about. There are so many people that risk their lives fighting for their country, but they cannot drink until they are 21. This to me is ridiculous and needs to be looked at. Another idea I think that could prove to be very interesting is making recreational marijuana legal. Instead of promoting an underground economy by keeping it illegal, the government could make it legal and tax it and benefit greatly. This would also reduce the funding for DEA since there isn’t that much of an illegal market anymore. I think all these topics would be really interesting and with research I would be able to find even more information on the topics.

Coming into this next project, i was not sure exactly what i wanted to research. A lot of my ideas were good but did not provide enough information to write a full, detailed research paper. However i did find one topic that i am particullary interested in and have been interested in for awhile. Recently, i watched a documentary on Netflix called " Fed Up" that was about the food industry and the secrets that they keep from consumers like us. I have always been interested in food and the science behind it. Since then, my outlook on processed and sugary foods has changed after learning what it can do to your body. The food industry is secretive about what they put on the shelves and can be detrimental to our health and seems to be a factor for childhood obesity. I am excited to research this topic more and to find out more about the food industry, processed foods and their effects on society.

Out of the numerous topics that I wrote down this past week in class, there are a few that I am more interested in than others. I was a dancer for over twelve years and I was and still am very passionate about it. I have always wanted to study the evolution of dance in the United States. Unfortunately, I am not sure what specific research question I would be asking but hopefully after spending class in the library, I will have found something. Another topic that I am interested in is the Great Barrier Reef and how it has been deteriorating due to global warming. I really enjoy learning about marine life as well as what we as humans can do to keep the ocean a safe place. I feel like another really interesting topic would be fashion trends and new clothing styles. I have always had a unique style of dress and I love finding out what new trends and styles are breaking out in the fashion industry, I would like to research maybe up and coming new clothing styles or even the evolution of fashion dating back to the early 1800s up to present day. I am hoping to find factual, informative research on these topics and go from there!

Trying to determine research topics has been rather difficult especially since I am a very indecisive person who lacks creativity. So far the ideas I have come up with are pill mills and the epidemic of prescription pill abuse and addiction, media and the effect on society, eating disorders, fast food industries and what they really put in the food, medical marijuana and the positive and negative effects it has, or zoos/aquariums/circuses and the treatment of animals over time. Prescription pill abuse is something that is personal to me and has been a topic of interest since my Uncle had an addiction. He had a minor surgery and was unnecessarily prescribed heavy pain killers. Because of the effects of the pain killers, he was convinced that he had severe pains in his neck and back when he did not take the medication. My dad tried to get him to go to physical therapy but each time he claimed that the therapy was ineffective and that they would just “take away the pills.” Soon after, my family realized that he had an addiction and tried to get him to rehab. Unfortunately he became depressed and did not have the fight or the strength to keep living, and took his life several months after we found out of his addiction. Writing a paper on addiction would be both personal and interesting to me because I have seen the way drugs changed my Uncle Whit from being a humble, humorous, and loving father and husband to a depressed skeleton.

The two main topic ideas I am interested in for this research paper came to my mind from reading the assigned homework pages from the bedford book of genres. Those are coffee/caffeine or road rage. I am mainly interested in the coffee/caffeine topic because I love to drink coffee but it tends to have negative effects on me. I think it would be a topic I could benefit from researching about and it would be interesting. I also think road rage would be interesting because I myself tend to be an easygoing driver not really caring if someone cuts me off but I know family members and friends who get really angry. I think it would be interesting to learn if its something about the brain and involves psychology. A few backup topics for me if caffeine or road rage don't work out would be about fast food, marketing/advertising, or social anxiety. I think fast food would be a topic that has many details and a variety of things to learn and explore, also I think marketing/advertising would be interesting to see how these advertisers use different strategies and things about the mind to get people to buy things. Lastly social anxiety would be a topic of interest because anxiety runs in my family and I also have friends affected by it.

Going into this research project I was unsure and having trouble thinking of topics that would be good for this project. I found the best way for me to find a topic was to come up with specific people that I could research instead of a broad array of topics. Two public figures that I am most interested with is President Trump and Tom Brady. I find these two people so interesting because they are two such polarizing figures in our world today and I feel like I could come up with a lot of research on them that I already do not know about them. President Trump is very interesting to me because the sort of attention that he attracts and the differing opinions so many people have on him. Going from being a wealthy businessman to the President is a huge leap and I know I could gather tons of info about that rise through the years. Tom Brady is so interesting to me because of he he's overcome all odds to become the greatest quarterback in history. His determination and perseverance really stands out to me and I believe these aspects of him would turn out to be a very good topic. Both of my top topics, I believe would be very interesting to research and I could find a lot more info than I already know.

At the start of this research paper project, I was very unsure on what to write about. I wanted to find a topic that I was really truly interested in, but something that I could also find new information on. I am very interested in the topic of psychology, such as psychological disorders or drug abuse. Therefore, I am leaning towards a topic that covers something along these lines. I am also very interested in the history of Florida State University, as I know it began as an all-women's college years and years ago. It would be interesting ti learn about how it transformed into the university that it is today. I am still unsure of which direction I will take my paper, but I believe that either a psychological topic or a topic about FSU would be extremely interesting, and fascinating to research and write about.

I have a few topics in mind. I am very interested in the medical usage of marijuana and also about Cuban immigration. Being that I myself come from a Cuban immigrant family, I am very inspired and inclined to choose a topic that has to do with Cubans. I find medical marijuana to be a v very interesting topic in this day of age. I am interested in the effects of different medicines. Although I am a marketing major, I am very interested in these topics and I feel was though I have a lot to learn from both.

I knew I wanted a topic that related to my field of study. So i began to look into medicine to decide what was currently happening and what i was interested in. I like fitness and my dad always made it a point to eat a well balanced diet. I also have been very active my whole life so I decided to look into topic that were relatedly. I think I have decided to discuss fad diets. In my paper i could discuss the negative affects on the body they have, why they keep reappearing, the bad eating habits they create afterwards, and why trending new fad diets. For my paper I can get resources talking about past fad diets and see if i can establish a pattern. I am interested to see where the research leads me.

Coming up with a topic was a bit difficult, but I knew it had to be something I really liked, or believed in strongly. I was between the tragedies that occur at zoos, animal testing, animal-cruelty such as slaughterhouses, etc., or something more related to my generation such as the effects of social media or drug and alcohol abuse. I finally decided to write my research paper on animal testing because many people don’t know what it exactly entails, how pretty much everything we use on our bodies is tested on animals, and how much pain the animals go through but don’t have a voice so this issue is often ignored by large companies and science labs. Ultimately, I hope this research paper sparks a change in someones heart and they begin to stir away from animal-tested products :)

I have had quite a few ideas for this research project. The ones I have been most interested in are researching the effects dyslexia has on people in school and in life, speculating on why the United States of America is one of only eight countries in the world where maternal mortality rates are rising, researching ideas for self-sustaining existence on earth and how that might be achieved, and researching and commenting on the dynamics between millennials and those before us (Gen X, Baby Boomers). I think that delving into the relationships between generations can be way too tricky and subjective, although it would be very interesting to try and present it in a relatively objective manner. I determined that I do not know enough about sustainable energy and the consequences of actions that could be taken enough to be able to write an entire research paper on it. Dyslexia has been researched and commented on a lot, I feel like my essay would just be reiteration of information that I find with no real new or valuable insight. I decided to do my paper on the rising maternal mortality rate in the United States because it directly affects me and the people I love. I would like to know even vaguely why the “greatest country on earth” is not doing enough for its women.

There are many different topics I am interested in researching and writing a paper about. The problem that presents itself is whether there is enough research available to use, and if the topic is interesting enough to capture the reader’s attention and keep them interested throughout the essay. The topic I am most interested in currently to research and write about for my next paper in this class in the history of social media. The different platforms of social media have changed drastically throughout the past decade. Now, more people are registered as users for social media than ever before, and they start at an earlier age. In addition to researching the history of social media platforms, I am interested in its impact on kids, specifically pre-tens and teenagers. Does social media put pressure on kids in this age range to grow up faster, look prettier, take time out of their daily life to take a million pictures to only find one good one, and put endless amounts of effort into a picture just to try to get the most likes possible. How important is the number of likes on a picture or the number of followers a specific person has. Has social media consumed teenagers lives and become the most important thing? How does social media affect school, kids attention while in class, and their grades?

Coming into the day I was pretty dead set on researching the Great Barrier Reef and what is causing it to die, also the solutions. By the time I started looking around to find research I realized there wasn't enough information on the dying of the reef. So I switched to research the history of steroids in baseball. I spent my whole life playing baseball and loving the sport. I was always one of the smaller people on my team for sure, and I actually thought about taking steroids to get bigger to get recruited. So this is an interesting topic for me to research to see what we can do to stop professional athletes, specifically baseball players, from doing steroids. Should steroids be legalized? What should the consequences of performance enhancing drugs be? How harsh is the punishment now?
