After in-class discussions, I have decided to do my research project on Food Advertising/Marketing and Childhood Obesity. I started out with a lot of potential research questions but I have narrowed it down to just a few main ones. 1) Is there a correlation between food advertising and childhood obesity. 2) How does the food industry advertise to children and youth? 3) Does the government have any control/ regulations on food marketing? Originally I wanted to focus my research on the food industry in general and focus on processed/packaged foods and its affects on health. But after researching my topic a little more, I realized I was more interested in how food marketing is influencing youth's health options.

After the activities we’ve done in class, my current topic is animal-assisted therapy. With this topic in mind, my current research questions are 1. Is animal-amsted therapy a true method of successfully curing an illness or is it just a myth/placebo? 2. Can AAT actually reduce symptoms or does it simply just mask the problem? 3. Are there enough studies to actually support the belief that AAT relieves symptoms? In order to make my research questions more specific i did research on the topic and looked at both sides of the argument (whether AAT works or not) and decided to include both reasonable sides in my paper, rather than try to argue one over the other. Another way i made my research questions more specific was by going through as many possible sources as i could and retaining important information that I could then turn into a more refined research question.

After what we have done in class, I have decided to remain with my original topic of dissociative identity disorder. There are quite a few research questions I hope to find the answers to. The most important of them are 1. What is Dissociative Identity Disorder so controversial opposed to other disorders? 2. How does this disorder affect the lives of those who suffer from it and is there a cure?

The most important of them are 1. What is Dissociative Identity Disorder and why is it so controversial opposed to other disorders? 2. How does this disorder affect the lives of those who suffer from it and is there a cure? I began with curiosity as to what Dissociative Identity Disorder was and after looking for sources and reading some of them my topic grew a bit more specific. After reading a source about a woman who has experienced Dissociative Identity Disorder I became more intrigued with the effects of the disorder and what makes people less sensitive towards it rather than simply what it was.

After all the activities we have done in class, the topic that I have chosen is abortion. Some of my research questions are, 1. Why is abortion considered cruel? 2. Why do anti-abortion factions consider abortion murder? 3. Should abortion be discussed more openly in schools? Should this education be mandatory for those who are over the age of thirteen? 4. Should women be limited to one abortion a lifetime? Two at a stretch? and 5. What price do we put on human life? At first, I was going to go very basic about abortion and be as general as possible without touching hard subjects, but instead I decided to go deeper and further into the controversy of abortion. So right now I am focused on abortion and politics, abortion and religion, and abortion and women’s rights.

After what we have done in class, I really had to brainstorm what my topic was going to be. After a lot of thought, I chose the changes in recent Birth Control laws, limiting its availability. The questions I plan to answer are, what are the recent changes? What has made them have to change? What is the reasoning behind the changes? Where is the evidence that this is a good choice? Is our new President the soul force behind this extreme Executive Order? Have we seen any benefits with this new law in place? To make my questions more specific, I have done research on the topic as a whole. I researched the history of Birth Control, and laws, and how each President has affected them. Besides that I believe I have some work to do to make my questions a lot more specific. I hope to be able to work with you in the conference to do just that!

After the activities we have down in class I have official decided to do my research project on fad diets, more specifically on why they keep re-occuring and why they gain so much followers. I wasn't to establish a pattern between fad diets of today to those in the past. Many of these diets are repeated over time even after being proven false on unhealthy. I am interested in the medical field, healthy lifestyles, and fitness.I am very intrigued by this topic especially because i know a lot of people who tired these diets and i can get their testimonials. Also I feel as recent fad diets have become more extreme, simply plan out dangerous. I want to understand why, is it because society is pressuring people to look thinner. Therefore people are going to more extreme lengths to achieve there weight lose. What drives people to follow these diets? they are normally both expensive and temporary, with a long list of negative affects.

My top choice for a topic, which was my selection initially, is the use of scorpion venom as an alternative to treat cancer, instead of using debilitating methods like chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Knowing this, some questions that will guide my writing, and will narrow my investigation are: What is the connection between scorpion venom and cancer? How can scorpion venom be used to treat cancer?, Why should scorpion venom be used as an alternative to other cancer treatment methods such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy?, Why hasn’t scorpion venom been used as much as other methods yet?, Has there been any story of successful use of scorpion treatment?, Is there any drug that uses scorpion venom already being commercialized for cancer treatment? I selected these main ideas as the goal for my project because they all help to explain the more general research question: How can alternative medicine, specifically scorpion venom, be used in the treatment of cancer? I came up with these questions after researching extensively several databases and observing common aspects that appeared important for the understanding of the topic. This preliminary research helped me narrow my original topic into specific questions that divided the process into smaller more understandable sections.

After discussing many different topics in class I came to the conclusion that I want to write this research paper on where are the best places to travel around the world. To go a little deeper into this topic I was thinking about writing about maybe the difference of backpacking versus regular traveling if the experiences are different and if your able to visit more interesting places if you back pack instead. Some of my research questions consist of where are the best places around the world to travel? What are the most unique places to see? What are the cheapest places to see? And many more. I have thought to add in backpacking instead of just best places to travel around the world. What I mean by this is comparing the two ways to travel and see if you have a better chance of seeing more amazing places and things by back packing versus traveling normally with a bunch of suitcases. As well as comparing if you travel in a big group versus a very small one.

After putting much thought into the topic of my paper I have decided to write about abuse in the film industry. I want to go into all types of abuse, from directors taking advantage of their actors to how drug abuse has influenced the lives of stars. I also want to draw insight into the common abuse in the adult film industry. I want to find out if abuse in the film industry is a prevalent issue and how that abuse is dealt with. Is this an important enough issue that is acknowledged in both the industry’s and the public’s eyes? Are the guilty people held accountable for their actions or is the abuse ignored? How has the public reacted to certain allegations? Have there been instances where the public is responsible for an actor’s discomfort? From the research I have done I have been able to find examples and answers to these questions, which has helped me to format the direction I want my paper to go in. I want to provide evidence that there is a good amount of varied types of abuse in the industry and that the accusations of abuse are handled very poorly by the industry and sometimes even the public.

At first I had my mind set on my topic being caffeine, but then I thought there would not be enough research on it. I finally came to the conclusion of my topic being dreams. I thought it would be really interesting to do an overview of dreams. With this topic in mind, the questions I want to answer are basically questions like when, what, why we dream and give an in depth overview of it. To make my topic more specific I have thought about doing it only on nightmares, but I was worried there may not be enough information to talk about, so I thought I would just like to possible go into a subtopic of nightmares and why those happen.

After doing the in-class activities and exploring my intended topics further, I’ve officially decided on writing my research paper the effects of technology use on the development of children. With my new topic in mind, the research question will be “What is the impact of technology use on the development of children? Good or bad?” I personally believe that the way children use technology today and how much they are exposed to it has a negative effect on their development from birth to age 8. I feel that my research question is very specific, so nothing further needs to be done to narrow my research. I will be explicitly researching the effects of tablets and computers because those are forms of technology which are used both in and outside the classroom for academic and entertainment purposes.

After deciding between many topic choices, I chose behavior analysis and it's relation to detection of deceit. At first, my research questions were all over the place, but now I have narrowed it down to just a few. My first one being: Whether or not it is possible to decipher if a person is lying based on their facial expressions, gestures, body language, and verbal language. My second one: Which type of lie detection is the most effective and why? My third one: How can one detect whether someone is lying or not during an interrogation through facial expressions, gestures, body language and verbal language. In order to make these questions more specific I chose a subject, lying, under my topic of behavior analysis. This makes both my questions and my topic less vague.

I started off the research report with five topics to narrow down. I decided to do my research proposal on technology throughout the years. Then I decided to not be as broad and focus on one specific type of technology which is technology in medicine. The questions I will be asking are...How has technology in medicine changed? How has it advanced over time? How is funding a contributing factor? How has the advancements in technology in medicine impacted society? What benefits could come from further innovating technology in terms of medicine? I made my topic more specific by instead of talking about several different types of technologies in different fields like business and other things, I chose to just speak about some technologies in the medical field/hospital.

I have decided to write my research paper on the truth behind animal testing. I am going to provide statistics on the number of animals tested in labs as well as include products that are tested on animals to get a better understanding of how our everyday products aren’t cruelty-free. I will also be more specific on my topic by creating an argument of alternatives in lab testing, how are advanced technology has provided us with alternatives. I plan on finishing off with cruelty-free alternatives and tips on how to help be a voice for animal’s that can’t.

The topic I decided to chose for my research paper are the cause and effects of drug smuggling/drug use in the United States. My research questions are what age group is being effected the most, who, what, where, and how the drugs are getting here. I'm also interested in what drugs are most commonly being used/smuggled. I have made an effort to have many research questions in an effort to make my paper have more details and to make my topic more specific. I am making good progress with what sources to use to answer my research questions and look forward to the work I am going to get done.

My current choice for my topic is still the epidemic of the prescription pill and opioid addiction. This is a topic that will always be of interest to me and is something that I will enjoy researching since my uncle unfortunately passed after becoming depressed from his addiction to Oxy. The research questions I have and will try to find the answer to are “-Should doctors be monitored more closely on what and to whom they prescribe to? -Do people have more addictive personalities than others? -How many people get addicted per year? -What are the causes of addiction to pain killers? -At what age should children be prescribed pain killers? -Should there be a time limit on when you get the pain killers depending on the severity of the surgery? -What are pill mills and how do they get away with prescribing freely? -How many overdoses are there per year from narcotics and opiates? -Should children without cancer be prescribed opioids? Should the entire country have the same regulations or should it just be by state?” and these questions have always been in my mind since two years ago today, February 26, 2015, the date of my uncle’s passing. So far, I gain more questions when I look at articles and I added more questions after researching for the report. Since this topic is something that comes up in discussion with my dad and I quite often, I have already had most of these questions in mind, and I am actually going to call my dad and find out more questions that he may have about the topic.

After a lot of time and consideration, my current top choice for a topic is how is the prohibition of marijuana similar to the prohibition of alcohol in the 19202 and 30s. With this topic at hand, I would like to explore how the prohibition of alcohol was in place, kept in place, then repealed after awhile since the government couldn’t control where it went. With this information, we would be able to predict how the prohibition of marijuana will go with the insight we have from the prohibition of alcohol. We can use or alter ideas from the alcohol prohibition to make the prohibition of marijuana successful unlike the alcohol one. Or, in total, we could see whether or not we should prohibit marijuana since it’s on a reckless road just like alcohol was. There are several ways to look at this topic and diving into it might help us see what the government should or shouldn’t do going forward. I am really struggling to make my topic more specific. I think it is pretty specific as it is, but I think one way that I can make it more specific is by drawing more questions from my topic. I can see how alcohol prohibition can show what we should and shouldn’t do going forward for the prohibition. I can see how prohibition of marijuana will fail or succeed like or unlike the prohibition of alcohol. There are several ways I can make my topic more specific, but I think that my research question is specific enough to write a paper on.

After what we have done in class and some time has passed, my current top choice for my topic of project two is Tiger Woods. When we first began my top two choices for topics were Donald Trump and Tom Brady but after some time passed I picked Tiger Woods. I really enjoy not only playing golf but watching golf and Tiger has always been my favorite golfer. He has had such an effect on the game of golf and the sports world that I wanted to research just the impact he has had. The research questions I plan on asking and find the answer to are, "What effect has Tiger Woods had on the game of golf as a whole" and "How has Tiger Woods inspired and impacted the next generation of top level golfers?" What I have done to make my topic more specific than just primarily Tiger Woods is by coming up with the research questions that not only point out his impact on golf as a whole but pin point the younger generation.

After the in-class discussions and writing my research proposal/report I have decided on the topic of how technology is affecting our society. I want to discuss how it has affected not only our generation now but also the older and younger generations. I feel that people no longer have relationships due to the fact that technology stands in the way. My main research question is How is technology affecting society. I want to then go further and discuss how it affects learning for children as well as aspects of the business world. I feel that my topic is very broad so I will have a lot of information to help prove my points.

After classes and further research, the topic I have chosen to write my paper on is social media and its negative effects on teenagers. The negative effects could range drastically in different parts of teenagers' lives. Their school grades could be effected, study habits, body image issues, social development problems. There could also be positive effects that I am going to research about as well, and possibly compare the negative and positive effects. Possibly the negative outweighs the positive? The research questions I am going to use are something such as "What are the negative effects of social media on teenagers?" Then from there, I will narrow down and focus on the specific parts of their lives that are affected. So far, in order to make my questions more specific, I have searched "negative effects of social media on study habits" and "negative effects on social development due to social media."

My current topic is drug abuse on college campuses. I want to cover what the most common drugs found on college campuses are, and exactly what their effects on the human body are, both short-term and long-term. My research question will be "what are the most common drugs found on college campuses, and what are their long-term effects?," or something along those lines. I think this topic is very interesting because, being a college student, drugs are anywhere and everywhere, and I believe that some of the students abusing these drugs have no idea what they are putting into their body, and the consequences that their decisions may have in the future,

My current top choice for a topic is the increasing maternal death rate in the United States. I want to find some reasons why this could be happening. Although there is no formal research done on this topic, there is plenty of speculations to sift through. It is really surprising to me that the United States is the most dangerous industrialized country in the world to give birth in. With all of our advancements and technology, you wouldn’t think that this would be an issue, but in fact, it’s getting worse. Some questions I want to ask include what are some standards that other countries are implementing to prevent a rise in maternal mortality? What are specific states doing right within our own country? Is it more to do with our health as a country or is it a failure of the health care system? I’m excited to gain some insight into this bleak situation.

My topic of choice is about the effects on tropical ecosystems due to global warming and other threats. The three ecosystems I want to research are coral reefs, mangrove forests and sea grass beds. Some of the research questions I am asking are as follows. What are the main factors that are causing the reefs, mangroves and sea grass to worsen?

My topic of research is going to be the drug policies in baseball, and how they are implemented in the league. Some of the research questions I am using are, what kinds of drugs are allowed to be consumed in baseball? What kind of testing can we do to prevent usage of drugs (primarily steroids). And also, why aren't steroids allowed in baseball? I've narrowed my topic down mostly to just the use of steroids and not drugs as a whole because the use of drugs is obviously illegal in baseball when it's illegal in the country as a whole. So the primary focus of my research will consist of performance enhancing drugs.
